He said, “It was much awaited! I feel extremely proud of them. I also feel proud to be a part of this film and have sung ‘Sholay’ in Tamil and Hindi alongside Vishal Mishra. I have no words! ‘Naatu Naatu’ became the frontrunner for the Oscars, when it won the Golden Globe Award in the same category. The win made it the first Indian Telugu and Asian song to win the award.
The music composer and lyricist’s win put Indian music on the world map yet again after AR Rahman, who previously won under the same category and also Best Original Score for the ‘Slumdog Millionaire’ track ‘Jai Ho’.
After a big Oscar campaign, it was expected that SS Rajamouli’s RRR might find a spot for itself in the Best Picture or the Best Director category, but the film did not make it to the final nominations.
